Centre’s two-late goals fall short against #16 Big Red

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Coming off the Bob Allen Nissan Classic last weekend, the Centre men's soccer team (2-3) took the field against 16th-ranked Denison (5-0-1) on Friday up north in Ohio. The Colonels made a late-game push against the Big Red in the final five minutes of play, but it wouldn't be enough on the 3-2 loss against Denison.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold & White felt the pressure early, Denison scoring on a penalty kick in the 12th minute of the game to take the lead.
- Centre looked to respond with their own goal, but Drew Davidson's shot on goal on the bottom-right side of the net would be saved by the keeper to prevent the tie.
- The two programs fought back-and-forth in the duel to start the second half, Denison extending their lead to three by the 83rd minute of the game with two goals in eight minutes.
- The Colonels wouldn't fall without swinging, Sota Ippongi earning his first goal of the season in the 87th minute. The score was assisted from his senior duo Matthew Seran.
- Despite the time crunch, the Gold & White didn't let off the gas, scoring once again in the game's final 60 seconds. John Palomino was the one to put the ball in the back of the net for the final shot of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Palomino's score in the final moments of the game now notches him with three in the year, leading the team in the early parts of 2023.
- Senior goalkeeper Jacob Camacho's four saves in the game against Denison marks the fourth time this season he's saved more shots than goals allowed out of his five starts.
- The Colonels scored on 40-percent of their shots in the match, their highest conversion rate of the season.

UP NEXT
Centre will make a pitstop on their way back to Danville with a match in Greencastle, Ind., facing off against the DePauw Tigers later this weekend. That game is currently set for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 17.
