DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team played its second ranked matchup of the season as the no. 13 Berry Vikings came to Alumni Gym. The Colonels took the opening set, but the Vikings won the next three to take the match.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was closely contested throughout as both teams made runs and exchanged the lead. The Vikings led 20-17 and 22-20 before the Colonels staged their biggest rally.
Abby Swartz and
Syd Bietz delivered consecutive kills to help Centre grab a 25-23 win.
- The second set was also tight the whole way. Centre used a 5-1 spurt midway through to take their biggest lead at 18-15 on a kill from Swartz, but Berry scored the next five to take the lead for good and win 25-21.
- The Vikings jumped out to an early four-point lead to start the third set and never looked back as they held the Colonels at bay, never letting them within three points the rest of the way and scoring the final five points to win 25-15.
- In the fourth set, it was a 5-1 Berry rally at the midway point that was the difference as Centre could not get over the hump, eventually falling by a 25-18 margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bietz finished with a team high 13 kills for the Colonels, with
Emily Goddin adding ten. Swartz paced Centre with a .353 hitting percentage.
- Centre held the advantage in digs at 58-51.
Emily Gardner led all players with 15 digs.
