LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After falling in their first contest at the JR Hoe Invitational on Friday, the Centre men's soccer team (1-1) aimed to bounce back in their Sunday matchup against the Asbury Eagles (0-1-1). The two programs were neck-and-neck throughout the majority of the contest, but the Colonels were able to claim their first win of the season off a late goal to set the final score 1-0.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The two teams battled it out across the first 31 minutes on even ground,
Luke Morgan breaking the stalemate with a shot on goal to the bottom-right side of the net that was saved by the Eagles keeper.
- The Colonel defense kept Asbury at bay for nearly the entire first half, not allowing a single shot on goal and only three shots in total.
- Centre emerged out of halftime with plenty of offensive pressure, the team opening looks to
Drew Davidson to attempt shots at the top, bottom left and bottom-right side of the net within four minutes of play.
- After the Eagles found themselves a shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of play,
Everett Hauser taking the free kick into the back of the net for the lead in the 89th minute.
- Asbury rushed through offense trying to even the score with only 120 seconds in the contest, but senior goalkeeper
Jacob Camacho was able to hold the Eagles back with a save to end the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hauser's game-winning goal is the first of his career, the fifth-year senior also earning his first career score helping Centre earn the win on Sunday.
- The Colonels tallied double-digit corner kicks (10) for a second-straight game in the young season, a feat they only completed once last year.
- Camacho's two saves against Asbury marks the first complete shutout of his career at Centre.
- Head coach Jeb Burch's team win on Sunday marks his 244th win with Centre men's soccer, six away from the 250-win milestone.

Centre will head back to Danville for an invitational of their own, hosting the 34th Bob Allen Nissan Classic starting on Friday, Sept. 8. The Colonels will invite Spalding, Maryville and LaGrange to the event, playing against LaGrange first that Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
