DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off their 2-1 win over Mount St. Joseph on Friday, the Centre women's soccer team (1-1) faced off against tenth-ranked Washington University (1-0) for a Sunday afternoon contest on Amend Field. Although the Gold & White were able to keep the Bears at bay in the first half, Washington found their stride in a three-minute span that gave Centre the loss on a 2-0 final score.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels didn't let the Bears get easy shots in the first 20 minutes of the match, both of Washington's shots going above the net to start the game.
- Sophomore
Riley Givens was close to finding an opening for the Gold & White in the game's 21st minute, pushing shot that just rose above the top-right side of the brackets.
- The Bears came close with a shot on goal to the bottom center of the net in the 33rd minute of action, but junior goalkeeper
Grace Dutcher came way with a save for the Colonels.
- Washington surged in the second half of action, scoring two goals to claim the lead in a 118-second span that started in the game's 50th minute.
- Centre aimed to respond and try to put a goal on the board,
Maggie Corbett and
Erin Reynolds each placing shots that didn't reach the back of the net.
- Givens would heave the last attempt for the Gold & White in the contest for a goal, the ball heading out top left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dutcher's three saves marks a season-high for the junior in the early season, notching some marks in the statistical category after not earning any on Friday.
- Centre's match against Washington was the first time the Colonels have faced a ranked team in the regular season since 2021 when they beat no. 17 Denison.
- The Colonels were able to draw in several free kicks in the contest, getting Washington to commit double-digit fouls (10) through 90 minutes.

Centre will look to move on quickly as they aim next for their match against Piedmont, that contest taking place on Labor Day, Sept. 4. The two teams will face off in a Monday-night showdown, kick off taking place at 7:30 p.m. ET on their home field.
