ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association released its weekly awards for men's basketball and for the second week in a row, the award went to a Centre freshman, this time going to forward
Riley Mastin.
Mastin had a week to remember this week for Centre. On Friday at Hendrix, he established a new career high 26 points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds. He was even better on Sunday at Rhodes, as the freshman big man scored 33 points - the highest total in a season for a Centre player - while also pulling down 12 rebounds in a 72-63 victory for the Colonels. He scored 22 of his 33 points in the second half, including a stretch of 13 points in a row to help Centre erase an 11-point deficit. For the week, Mastin averaged 30 points and 13 rebounds per game while shooting 61 percent from the field, 67 percent from three-point range and 82 percent from the line.
Mastin becomes the third Centre player to be named Player of the Week this season, joining teammates
Cade Stinnett (Dec. 11) and
Landen Hamilton (Jan. 29).
Centre men's basketball will return to action on Feb. 2 when they host Birmingham-Southern.
