MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – A long touchdown pass in the fourth quarter provided the difference on the scoreboard as Centre football fell to the Berry Vikings on the road by a score of 28-21. The loss drops the Colonels to 4-1 in conference play and in a three-way tie with Berry and Trinity atop the league standings.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Vikings got on the board first as they took the opening kickoff and drove down the field, stalling inside the red zone before kicking a field goal to go up 3-0.
- After Centre's first offensive series ended with an interception, the defense forced a quick punt and the offense went to work deep in their own territory. A strike from
Jack Gohmann to
Travis Maufer for 39 yards got Centre into the red zone and on third down, Gohmann found
Scotty Brown from eight yards out for a go-ahead score.
- On the first play of the second quarter, Berry blocked a Centre punt and recovered it for a touchdown to retake the lead at 10-7. The Vikings added to their lead with a 19-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion to go up 18-7.

- The two teams traded punts to start the third quarter, with a Centre block giving the ball back to the Colonels at midfield.
Tyler Blythe took an inside handoff and raced into the red zone. The Vikings stopped Gohmann at the goal line on consecutive runs, but on fourth down, the junior quarterback called his number again and snuck it in for the tying score, making it 21-21.
- A long Berry drive stalled after crossing the 50 near the end of the third quarter as
JJ Jones recovered a Viking fumble to give possession to Centre.
- On second down from the Berry 16, a short pass over the middle turned into an 84-yard touchdown that put the Vikings back on top 28-21 with just over eight minutes left.
- The Colonels got one more crack at tying the game with two minutes to go and were able to cross midfield, but a key sack on second down stopped the momentum and Centre ended up turning the ball over on downs two plays later.
