MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Centre men's basketball team saw their five-game win streak come to an end as the Colonels dropped a non-conference contest against the Rhodes Lynx by a score of 85-59 on Sunday.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to a slow start for the second straight game as Rhodes reeled off the first eight points of the game before
Kalib Thomas broke the seal.
- Centre chipped away at the early deficit as
Hunter Coleman,
Izayiah Villafuerte and
Ryan Shene all made three-pointers in the first ten minutes and a driving layup by Villafuerte made it an 18-15 game.
- From there, the Lynx went on their biggest run of the game as they outscored Centre 27-5 over the next nine minutes. A layup by Villafuerte at the buzzer sent both teams to the locker room with Rhodes leading 45-22.
- Rhodes opened the second half as hot as they finished the first, scoring on seven of their first eight offensive possessions to lead by as many as 33. Centre's reserves held Rhodes scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the half, but the lead was too much.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- 11 Centre players scored in the game, but only
Jaxson Banks finished in double figures, leading the Colonels with ten points.
- After blistering the nets yesterday against Hendrix, Centre was cold all game long in this one, shooting 37 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three-point range.
