Women’s basketball outlasts Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C., – On Sunday, the Colonels returned to play, traveling to North Carolina to take on the Avenging Angels. After a four quarter, back-and-forth clash, Centre edged Meredith out by a score of 60-58, improving to a 7-2 overall mark.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels took a slight lead in the opening minutes thanks to a long ball from Emma Perna. The two squads kept the game close, swapping baskets from the floor to move the score to 14-12 entering the next quarter.
- Meredith momentarily took the lead opening the second period but Lilly Reid answered from behind the arc, directly followed by one in the paint from Katelyn Stiltner. The two teams fell silent midway through the frame until Reid and Ryleigh Campbell reignited the scoring with a pair of unbroken jumpers. After trading baskets for the remainder of the half, the score was halted at Centre 29, Meredith 24 entering the break.
- Out of the locker room, Centre stretched their lead to as much as seven before the Avenging Angels stole it and created distance with 11 unanswered points. Reid eventually broke the Colonels' four-minute scoring drought with the final bucket of the period, adjusting the score to 46-41, Centre trailing.
- Opening the fourth, Ka'Niah Edelen opened a key 13-2 scoring run for the Gold & White, reclaiming the lead. Meredith rebutted with an 8-2 run of their own to go ahead by three but then placed Bailey Rucker at the line. Netting both, the Colonel made it a one-point game before fellow senior, Stiltner, stole the lead with a lay-up with 12 seconds to go. The Angels placed Rucker at the line to close the game, the Colonels winning 60-58.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
