Colonels fall to Petrels on last-second shot

ATLANTA – The Centre men's basketball team wrapped up the road portion of the 2023-24 season with a rematch against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. The game was close throughout, but ultimately a last-second shot provided the final margin in a 69-66 Oglethorpe win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The first half featured runs by both teams. The Petrels scored eight straight, only for the Colonels to fire back with a 9-0 run as Caleb Maul went inside to give Centre a 19-14 edge at the halfway point. After Oglethorpe rallied to tie the game, the two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half.
- Jaxson Banks came off the bench to hit consecutive three-pointers in the final minutes and nothing was settled at the break as the score was tied at 32 at the half.
- The chess match continued after the break as the lead changed hands seven times over the first five minutes of the second half, with Landen Hamilton and Izayiah Villafuerte providing the offensive punch. Oglethorpe used a 9-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 51-45, but Banks cut the deficit in half with a three.
- The Petrels kept the Colonels from getting over the hump for most of the second half, but Centre remained within striking distance the whole way. Down by two, Chez Moore drove to the rack and scored with 14 seconds to go to tie the score at 66-66, but this gave Oglethorpe the last shot and they cashed in with a three with three seconds left to secure the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
