Centre women fall to Sewanee in regular season finale

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's basketball team played its final game of the regular season as they hosted the Sewanee Tigers. The visiting Tigers began the game on fire and never cooled down as they won by a score of 78-74

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Sewanee controlled the opening period of the contest as they shot 54 percent and nailed three three-pointers to take a 19-13 lead after one quarter.
- The second quarter saw both teams take turns going on runs. Bailey Rucker and Emma Perna connected on consecutive threes to open the period, only for the Tigers to fire back with eight straight points to take their largest lead at 27-19. Lindsay Jessie gave Centre a lift in the second quarter with four points and four rebounds, and a pair of Ka'Niah Edelen free throws with 18 seconds to go narrowed the Sewanee lead to 32-30 at the break.
- The Tigers continued their hot shooting to start the third quarter and extended the lead to 45-36, their largest of the game. The Colonels crashed the offensive glass to help claw back into the game, converting from the free throw line and forcing turnovers, eventually taking the lead at 51-50 on a free throw by Makya Grinter. A jumper by Katelyn Stiltner put Centre on top 53-52 with one period left.
- In the fourth quarter, the Tigers took the lead with less than seven minutes remaining and stayed hot for the rest of the period, extending their lead as Centre missed critical free throws.
- Trailing by seven in the final minute, the Colonels frantically fought to cut the deficit to two as Natalie Duggins put back an offensive rebound to make it 76-74, but the Tigers iced it at the free throw line.
