DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre men's tennis team started the spring with a 5-4 win over Wabash College on Saturday inside the Seabury Family Tennis Center.
The Colonels sit at a perfect 1-0 in the first action of the 2024 season.
It was all Little Giants early. The No. 1 and 2 doubles teams for Centre each fell 8-5.
Ty Bush and
Bo Bush fell in the top doubles spot, while
Jett Anderson and
Jasper Gazzo saw a setback in the second slot. The final series in the three-set portion of the contest was the first win of the day for the Gold & White.
Ben Rueff and
Ashton Whitt won the first point for Centre with a 8-6 triumph in the No. 3 doubles.
Rueff got the singles action started with a Colonel win in the No. 1 slot. He took down Cole Shifferly 6-2, 6-4 to tie the match at 2-2 for each team. Whitt won the No. 2 single match over Augusto Ghidini 6-4, 6-4. The No. 3 battle saw a tiebreaker needed. Anderson fell 7-6. 6-3 with a tiebreaker loss to put the match at 3-3.
Wabash took the lead with a win in the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-2 over
Ty Bush, but Centre rebounded, and
Bo Bush tied the match at 4-4 with a 7-6, 6-1 win that also featured a tiebreaker victory. The match win was secured by
Jasper Gazzo who won the No. 6 slot 6-1, 6-2.
The Gold & White will be back in action at home on Wednesday. They take on Campbellsville University at 4:00 p.m. ET on Feb. 21.
