DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre men's tennis team took on a squad receiving votes in the NAIA tennis poll in Campbellsville University and finished with a 7-2 setback.
The Colonels moved to 1-1 with the loss while the Tigers also sit at an even .500 at 2-2.
The Bush brothers picked up the first Centre win of the match as
Ty Bush and
Bo Bush earned an 8-7 win in the No. 1 spot over Nicolas Andrade and Nahuel Hernando. In No. 2 doubles,
Jett Anderson and
Jasper Gazzo won five games in an 8-5 loss. The No. 3 doubles slot was competitive with
Ben Rueff and
Ashton Whitt falling in an 8-7 contest with Nathan Boulard and Mario Sanchez.
Ty Bush earned the lone singles win for the Gold & White in a No. 4 singles battle with Boulard that required a tiebreaker (6-1, 6-7, 10-6). The No. 6 solo action also needed a tiebreaker as Gazzo fell in a heartbreaker to Sanchez 4-6, 7-6, 5-10. Centre saw strong efforts in the No. 1, 3, and 5 slots as all three of those Colonels won multiple games. Rueff fell 6-3, 6-4 in the top spot, Anderson dropped a 7-6, 6-4 decision on the third court, and
Bo Bush fell 6-3, 6-3 in No. 5 action.
The Gold & White remain at home for the final match of the month. Centre hosts Indiana University-Southeast on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. ET.
