Softball drops two in Alabama

HUNTINGDON, Ala. - The early season for Centre softball rolled on with a double dose of the Huntingdon College Hawks on Saturday. The Colonels (0-4) dropped the first contest 15-1 and the second 10-2. 

GAME ONE: Huntingdon 15, Centre 1 
- Madalyn Irwin got on base for the Gold & White first after being walked to start the top of the first. 
- Two singles, a double, and a home run put up 4 runs for the Hawks in the bottom of the opening inning. 
- Centre had a runner come home in the second. After a strike out swinging, Layne Ogle was hit by a pitch and landed on first. Rylie Bentley, after another strike out, doubled to center field to score Ogle. 
- An onslaught of runs came from Huntingdon in the final three innings. The Hawks scored 11 more to take the first game 15-1. 
- Lydia Rice got the start in the circle and pitched three innings. She struck out two batters. Andrea Searcy appeared in the circle for one inning and struck out a single batter. 

GAME TWO: Huntingdon 10, Centre 2 
- Huntingdon took an early lead thanks to a five-run first inning.  
- Regan Brownley got the first hit of her collegiate career in the top of the second inning. An Ogle double followed and Brownley scored for the Colonels. 
- Four more runs from the Hawks came before the next Gold & White score. 
- That run for Centre came in the top of the fifth. With two outs on the board, Cheney Floyd came to the plate and hit a homer. It was the second home run of the season for the Colonels. 
- Huntingdon held on and won 10-2. 
- Offense was brighter for the Gold & White in the game as the Colonels had eight hits. It was the second-most for Centre all season. 
- Lucy Baseheart was the pitcher of record for the Colonels and stayed in circle all game.

The road trip for Centre softball ends tomorrow, as they take on LaGrange College in two games. First pitch of game one from LaGrange, Ga. Is set for 11 a.m. ET.
