Colonels fall to Tigers in SAA Quarterfinals

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's basketball team hosted the Sewanee Tigers in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament and a rematch of the regular season finale on Feb. 14. This rematch went to the Tigers, who used a run midway through the second half to claim a 78-73 victory.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Colonels played well in the early minutes as Cade Stinnett buried consecutive three-pointers and Chez Moore went in for a dunk to put Centre up by six.
- Sewanee rebounded to take the lead at the 12-minute mark and the two teams traded baskets over the next four minutes. Now trailing 29-24, the Colonels reeled off six straight as Moore scored at the end of the shot clock to give Centre the lead. After trading free throws, Sewanee took a 35-34 lead at the break.
- Centre came out to start the second half and retook the lead at 38-37 on a jumper by Carter Baughman. Sewanee responded to retake the lead and kept the Colonels from getting over the hump over the next several minutes.
- The Tigers extended the lead to as many as 11 points at 64-53 with seven minutes left. The Colonels rallied as Jaxson Banks hit two straight threes to narrow the gap to 66-63, but that was as close as Centre got the rest of the way as Sewanee made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Moore led the Colonels with 20 points and finished with a career high and game high 15 rebounds. Landen Hamilton added 18 points, Stinnett scored 15 and Caleb Maul tied a career high with ten points.
- The Colonels finished with eight blocks on the day as Maul hit a career high with four.
- Sewanee held a 49-35 edge on the glass and a 19-11 advantage in second chance points.
