DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team hosted the Asbury Eagles in a midweek clash at Gary Wright Field at Fishman Park, pulling out the victory by a score of 9-4 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- A leadoff triple helped the visiting Eagles get on the board first. Centre broke the ice in the second when an
Aaron Lopez walk and a
Michael Lynch single put runners on the corners. One balk later and the runners advanced to score Lopez and tie the game.
Ayden Lohr then ripped a base hit up the middle to bring home Lynch and make it 2-1.
- Asbury rallied in the third to tie the game after three hits and an error, but Centre took the lead right back in their half of the inning as
Ben Prather went the other way for a single and
Evan Weyler hit one just past the diving left fielder for a triple to give the Colonels a 3-2 advantage.
- In the fourth, Asbury again tied the game following a single and three straight walks. Facing the bases loaded with no outs,
Aidan Christmas induced a 1-2-3 double play to help get out of the jam.
- Centre put up a crooked number in their half of the fourth. Lynch led off with a solo homer to right field, the first by the Colonels this season. With
Jamie Laframboise on third after a pair of errors,
Josh Cunningham doubled down the left field line to make it 5-3. Cunningham later scored on a wild pitch for the Colonels' third run of the inning.
- An error got a run back for the Eagles in the fifth, but the Colonels came back with their second straight crooked number. Lynch again went yard to lead off, hitting it in almost the exact location as his previous home run. With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly by Prather scored Laframboise and made it an 8-4 game.
-
Zach Heavern got a big strikeout in the sixth to end a bases loaded rally, and then things calmed down until the bottom of the eighth when consecutive doubles by Weyler and Lopez made it 9-4 to cap off the scoring.
David Kinsbrunner got the Eagles to ground into a 6-4-3 double play for the final outs of the ballgame.
