Colonels stay unbeaten with 14-9 victory over Capital

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team picked up its fourth win of the season in a thrilling 14-9 victory over the Capital Comets on Friday night inside Gary Wright Field at Fishman Park.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Comets were the first to dent the scoreboard in the bottom of the second and they put together a three-run rally.
- In Centre's half of the inning, Evan Weyler smacked a triple off the center field wall to lead off. An RBI groundout by Aaron Lopez cut the deficit to 3-1. A Karson Thompson double, a Michael Lynch walk and a pair of steals put runners on second and third. Another RBI groundout by Conner Jackson narrowed the gap and Ayden Lohr capped off the rally with a single to drive in Lynch to tie the game.
- Capital regained the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits to go up by a count of 5-3.
- The Centre bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth. Lynch ripped a double down the line and three straight singles by Jackson, Lohr and Josh Cunningham produced two runs to tie the game again. Chase Austin walked and Ben Prather singled to drive in two more runs. Then Weyler came through again with a three-run homer over the big wall in left field to finish off a seven-run inning,
- In the sixth, Capital rallied for four runs after four hits and two Centre errors, but David Kinsbrunner came on in relief and struck out the final two batters on six pitches to end the threat with Centre still up 10-9.
- Singles by Lopez and Lynch put runners on the corners for Centre in the bottom of the sixth and a sacrifice bunt by Jackson made it an 11-9 ballgame.
- The Colonels tacked on three more in the eighth. Lopez and Thompson led off with consecutive hits before Jackson went the other way with a base hit that plated the first run of the frame. Another sacrifice bunt from Lohr made it 13-9, and then Cunningham doubled off the wall to finish off the scoring.
