Centre defeats DePauw 6-3 to improve to 6-0

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball kept its season-opening winning streak going on Saturday afternoon as the Colonels defeated the DePauw Tigers 6-3 to improve to 6-0 on the year.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Neither team could crack the scoreboard in the first four innings, but in the top of the fifth, the Tigers manufactured a run to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Connor Jackson walked and stole second. Jamie Laframboise and Ayden Lohr lined sharp singles off the shortstop's glove to produce the first hit of the game. A Josh Cunningham single loaded the bases and Chase Austin worked a walk to put Centre on top 2-1. Ben Prather then doubled down the right field line to score Lohr and Cunningham, giving the Colonels a 4-1 edge.
- After Prather forced a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the sixth, Karson Thompson led off the Centre half of the inning with a double into the gap. With Thompson on third, Centre executed a perfect squeeze play and Laframboise beat out the bunt to put Centre ahead by a count of 5-1. After an error moved Laframboise to second, Cunningham went the other way with a base hit to make it a 6-1 game.
- Leading 6-2 in the ninth, the Colonels gave up a run on an RBI groundout and the Tigers had the tying run at the plate with one out, but Aidan Christmas got the last two batters to strike out, securing the Centre victory.
