DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's tennis team got the job done over Indiana University Southeast with an 8-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The win is the first for the Colonels this spring season.
The Gold and White are 1-2 as they move closer to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play this week.
A sweep started the day for Centre as the duo of
Grace Williams and
Natalie Black took down Maci Vaughn and Elana Hamby 8-0 in No. 2 duos action inside the Seabury Family Tennis Center. After tying 7-7, the No. 1 pair of
Carlie Mitchell and
Maddy Trinh earned a 9-7 tiebreaking win over Katie Weimer and Anna Littlefield. The third doubles tally was a default win for the Colonels as the Grenadiers did not have enough to field that final team.
Centre won all but one singles match on Sunday.
Kennedy Herring finished up first in the No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Weimer.
Gigi Gossett got it done in the third singles slot 6-2, 6-3 against Vaughn.
Abby Jamison won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 match while
Skylar Keesee won in the five spot with scores of 7-5, 6-4.
The lone singles loss was in the top singles match where Black fell to Littlefield 6-2, 6-1. The win in the sixth spot was by default for the home team due to lack of available IUSE players.
