DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre women's tennis team faced No. 12 Sewanee in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tennis action on Thursday night and fell 6-0.
The Colonels left the Seabury Family Tennis Center with a 1-3 overall record and 0-1 SAA mark, while the Tigers moved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAA.
The Gold & White's No. 2 doubles team had the closest battle of the duos portion for Centre.
Grace Williams and
Natalie Black earned four wins in the second slotted match that ended in an 8-4 setback to Nicole Nowak and Mariella Congeni. The No. 3 doubles match featured three game wins for the Colonels thanks to
Carlie Mitchell and
Maddy Trinh, but the final score was 8-3 in favor of visiting Sarah Livingston and Ansley Carpenter. The No. 3 doubles match, the first to finish, was played by
Kennedy Herring and
Sophie Maddux and concluded 8-1 for the Sewanee duo of Ivy Wilson and Emma Caldwell.
Three singles matches were able to come to an end before the match was called by decision. Williams took a game in the one slot over Carpenter in a 6-1, 6-0 setback. Mitchell kept things close the first set of the No. 2 slot in a match that broke 6-4, 6-1 in favor of Sewanee. Two more game wins came for Centre in the No. 3 singles in a match that saw Trinh fall 6-2, 6-0 to Congeni.
Of the three unfinished singles matches, only one saw games played. Black was behind 3-0 to Nowak when action was called. Herring and Maddux did not get to take the court due to the win by decision for the opposition.

The Gold & White hop back outside of SAA play next Saturday when the Colonels host Hanover. The match is set for 11 a.m. on March 9.
