Centre women earn 72-54 win over Millsaps on Senior Day

DANVILLE, Ky. – Sunday afternoon was Senior Day for Centre women's basketball and the Colonels earned a big victory over the Millsaps Majors, winning 72-54 to pull within half a game in the standings.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Colonels got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven points as Anna Thomas buried a three on the break. Both teams settled in after that and Centre took a 14-10 lead after one period following free throws by Makya Grinter.
- Centre again came out with guns blazing to start the second quarter as Grinter scored inside, followed by consecutive threes from Thomas and Bailey Rucker to make it 22-10. The Colonels utilized excellent interior passing as Emma Rose Vincent found Natalie Duggins inside for a layup and Centre led 28-14. Centre led by as many as 15 points after a pair of Rucker free throws and took a 37-24 lead going into halftime.
- The Majors made their best push of the game halfway through the third quarter as they crashed the boards, got to the free throw line and cut the Centre lead to 43-37. The Colonels converted defense to offense and scored the next two buckets to bring it back to double digits, leading 51-40 with one quarter to play.
- Centre made a number of big shots in the fourth quarter to keep the Majors at arm's length. Rucker and Grinter did the majority of the damage as the Colonels outscored the Majors 11-2 over the final three minutes to secure the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Rucker led all players with 18 points and finished with six assists.
- Grinter had a full box score with 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.
- Thomas connected four times from long range and finished with 15 points. Vincent added ten points and five rebounds.
- The Colonels limited the Majors to 27 percent shooting in the second half.
 
NEXT UP
 
With the regular season winding down, the Colonels will head to Georgia next week to face Berry and Oglethorpe.
