WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Centre men's tennis team fell to the NAIA's No. 18 ranked team, the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands on Sunday afternoon by a 7-0 tally.
The Colonels moved to 4-3 with the setback.
The Gold & White earned a doubles win in the No. 2 slot but did not earn a point as the duos portion was scored as one decision per NAIA rules. That match was won by
Chase Turley and
Jasper Gazzo 7-5 over Killian Surmont and Chiang Chia Chun. The other two duos matches were close for Centre.
Ty Bush and
Isaac Flanery fell 7-5 to Martin Muller and Hung Ju Wu in the No. 1 slot, while
Tanner Ray and
Emerson Dean were setback 6-4 to Liam Savio and Gabriele Solda in the No. 3 match.
All but one Colonel earned multiple game wins in the singles competition. Flanery battled hard in the No. 3 spot before falling 7-6, 6-2 to Ju Wu. Turley also had a close margin as he fell 6-3, 7-5 in the fifth-ranked singles slot to Cruypenninck.
Anderson Gosnell won a game in each set in a 6-1, 6-2 fall to Lucas Augotr in the No. 6 slot.
Jett Anderson and
Ty Bush each won two games. Anderson fell 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 match while Bush had a 6-2, 6-0 decision against him in the No. 2 slot.
Ashton Whitt fell 6-0, 6-0 in the top spot to Muller.
