NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Spring break for Centre men's tennis started with a 7-2 setback to No. 39 Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels fell to 4-4 on the season with the weekend setback.
Both points earned by Centre were in double play. Bo and
Ty Bush won in the No. 1 slot with a 8-5 decision over Nesh Kumaresan and Vincent Truong.
Ben Rueff and
Ashton Whitt won in the second-ranked slot with an 8-4 victory over Ashton Legum and Eddy Porsmyr Hansen.
Chase Turley and
Jasper Gazzo fell 8-5 to Ryan Monroe and Alex Seretis in the No. 3 duos match.
The No. 1 singles match was a battle back and forth with a tiebreaker needed in the second set and then a third set in the 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 0-1 (8-10) setback for for Rueff against Hansen. The fifth slotted singles match required an extra set as
Isaac Flanery fell to Seretis 6-4, 3-6, 5-7. No. 2 singles featured Whitt who fell 6-3, 7-5 to Truong.
Ty Bush fell in the No. 3 match 7-5, 6-2 to Monroe and
Bo Bush lost 7-5, 6-4 to Legum. The final singles match was a 6-0, 6-4 setback for
Jett Anderson versus Tyler Hyun.

The Virginia trip continues tomorrow with a match at Virginia Wesleyan University. Centre and the Marlins will face off at 12 p.m. ET from Virginia Beach, Va.
