DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's tennis team had an excellent showing in the squad's first outdoor home match of the season as the team captured a 6-3 win over Midway.
The Gold & White moved to 2-4 with the win over the Eagles on Thursday evening.
For the second time this season the Colonels swept doubles action.
Maddy Trinh and
Carlie Mitchell were in the No. 1 duos slot for the fifth time this season and won 8-5 over Agustina Olivero and Mara Guillen.
Grace Williams and
Natalie Black moved to 3-1 in the No. 2 doubles slot on the season with a 8-5 triumph over Isabella McKinney and Nana Hishida. The season record for
Kennedy Herring and
Sophie Maddux improved to 2-1 as the pair won the No. 3 doubles match 8-3 versus Grace Froedge and Angelia Herrera.
The singles portion was another positive for Centre as the home squad won three out of the six matches. Williams, playing as the No. 2 in singles for the first time this season, won 5-7, 6-2, 13-11 in a match that needed a third set. Mitchell won her first battle as No. 3 this season with a 6-4, 6-4 final result. Herring won her second singles match of the year as she won 6-4, 6-1 in the fifth slot.
The Colonels fell in the other three singles contests. Trinh fell 3-6, 1-6 as the No. 1 pick, Black dropped a 1-6, 3-6 decision in No. 4 action, and Maddux battled to a tiebreaker for the final set but ultimately was setback 2-6, 6-7 (1-7).
