VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - An 8-1 win for Centre women's tennis over Virginia Wesleyan University signaled a positive start to the squad's spring break trip.
The Colonels improved to 3-4 on the season after a second-straight match win.
When it comes to doubles action the Gold & White are clicking as they have swept the duo competitions in the last three matches.
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams remained perfect as the top duo after an 8-4 win over Tuva Flink and Sophie Engelbert on Monday afternoon.
Kennedy Herring and
Carlie Mitchell earned their first win as a duo with an impressive 8-2 showing in the No. 2 match versus Mikisha Thomas and Shannon Lewes.
Kayla Harger saw her first doubles action of the season in the No. 3 slot with
Natalie Black and the pair earned an 8-0 shutout of Kristina Abrams and Haley Haydon.
All but one singles match went the way of Centre. Mitchell won her first match of the year in the top slot with a 6-2, 6-2 tally over Flink. Williams won her second-straight match in the No. 2 ranked competition with a 6-4, 6-4 result over Engelbert.
Trinh topped Thomas in the third slot 6-1, 6-0. Black also blanked her opponent in a single set as she won 6-0, 6-1 over Sophia Bibbo in the No. 5 match.
Sophie Maddux picked up her first singles win of 2024 with a 6-6, 6-1 tally over Haydon. The lone loss for the Colonels still needed a tiebreaker as Herring battled to a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 setback to Lewes.
