Colonels walk it off to beat Concordia-Chicago in extras

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team wrapped up the first of two Spring Break home series as they played the third game against the Concordia-Chicago Cougars. The game needed extra innings to reach the finish as the Colonels won on a walk-off error in ten innings.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Harrison Cowdrey escaped a jam in the top of the third by forcing a 6-4-3 double play with runners on the corners to get out of the inning.
- The Centre offense rewarded their starting pitcher with a crooked number in their half of the inning. Jamie Laframboise, Conner Jackson and Josh Cunningham led off with consecutive singles, and then Ben Prather drove in a pair with a base hit up the middle. The Colonels added another run on a sac fly by Ayden Lohr to take a 3-0 lead.
- Concordia got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run, but the Colonels got the run back in the sixth as Aaron Lopez hit a triple that bounced over the right fielder's head, eventually scoring on a shot down the line by Laframboise.
- In the seventh, the Cougars tied the score on a walk, three hits and a balk. Both offenses cooled after that and the game went into extra innings.
- After David Kinsbrunner shut down the Cougars in the top of the tenth, the Colonels got something going in the bottom of the inning. Evan Weyler lined a base hit up the middle, and a single by Michael Lynch put runners at the corners. An attempted pickoff throw on Lynch went into the outfield, allowing Weyler to score the winning run.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Laframboise paced the Centre offense with three hits, the RBI double in the sixth and a stolen base.
- Kinsbrunner earned the victory after working 1.2 scoreless innings out of the pen, including getting out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth.
- Today's win was the 77th by the Centre baseball class of 2024, the most wins by any senior class in program history.
