WILMORE, Ky. – Centre baseball's midweek clash against the Asbury Eagles featured runs in bunches and crooked numbers in the box score for both teams, but ultimately the victory went to the Colonels, who picked up their 16th win of the season by a score of 18-11.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got on the board first in the top of the second as
Ayden Lohr smacked a double into the opposite field gap, eventually scoring on an RBI single from
Karson Thompson.
- Centre added another run in the next inning as
Conner Jackson led off with a base hit, advanced on a passed ball and scored after
Josh Cunningham singled through the left side.
- The Eagles tied the score with a two-run homer in the third, but the Centre offense exploded in the fourth. Lohr led off with a base hit,
Aaron Lopez Walked, and Thompson legged out a bunt single to load the bases. The first run scored after an RBI groundout by
Jamie Laframboise. Jackson then ripped a base hit up the middle to make it 5-2. Cunningham,
Ben Prather and
Evan Weyler made it four consecutive singles for the Colonels, plating two more runs. Centre capped off the six-run rally with an RBI groundout by
Michael Lynch to make it 8-2.
- The fifth inning produced another large run total for the Colonels. Lopez and Thompson led off with consecutive base hits. Asbury errors on the next two at-bats resulted in three runs crossing the plate. With the bases loaded, Weyler was hit by a pitch to bring in another run. An RBI groundout by Lynch, a shot up the middle by Lohr, and a Lopez sacrifice fly followed to give Centre a 15-2 lead.
- Leading 15-6 in the sixth,
Carson Mire worked a two-out walk, stole second and eventually scored after an Asbury error to make it 16-6.
Ethan Carter lined one up the middle to drive in
Robert Monaco and put the Colonels up by 11 runs.
- The last Centre run came in the top of the ninth as
Cole Nakazawa led off with a walk in his first career plate appearance. Pinch runner
Alex Hansen advanced to third after a wild pitch and passed ball, and
Jonah Porter drove him in with a sac fly.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre's 18 runs are the third highest run total put up by the Colonels through the first 21 games.
- Lohr and Thompson tied for a game high with three hits each, while Jackson led the Colonels with three RBIs.
- Tonight was the seventh time this season that the Colonels have scored ten or more runs in a game.
