FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Tuesday saw the Centre men's tennis squad in a tough spot with an 8-1 loss to No. 37 Mary Washington University.
The overall record for the Gold & White sits at 4-6 after the Wednesday tilt.
Chase Turley and
Jasper Gazzo earned the lone win for the Colonels with an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles action versus Andrew Cooper and Jacob Pfab. The win marked their first win of the season as a duo.
Ben Rueff and
Ashton Whitt kept things competitive in the No. 2 duos battle as they forced a tiebreaker before falling 8-7 (7-3) to John Riordan and Evan Fisher.
Bo Bush and
Ty Bush fell in the No. 1 match 8-5 to Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese.
Ty Bush forced three sets in the No. 2 singles match that went 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in favor of Brock Ladehoff.
Bo Bush also forced an extra set in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 setback to Albert Vladimirskiy in the fifth-ranked match.
Isaac Flanery kept things competitive as he fought to a tiebreaker in the final set of the No. 4 match, which broke 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to the Eagles' Artis Hart. The top-slotted match saw Rueff fall 6-2, 6-4 to Shankar. Whitt dropped the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-2 to Trevor Rein while Gazzo fell 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 match to Evan Fisher.
