SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The winning streak for Centre women's tennis ended at three after a narrow 5-4 loss to Sweet Briar College Wednesday afternoon.
The Gold & White are 4-5 after the midweek setback to the Vixens who are 10-1.
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams remain undefeated in the No. 1 doubles spot as an 8-4 win over Alex Guilarte and Ana Patino moved them to 4-0 on the season. With an 8-6 win versus Maria Caro and Isabela Guilarte the No. 2 pair of
Kennedy Herring and
Carlie Mitchell moved to four-straight victories.
Kayla Harger and
Natalie Black fell 8-4 to Juli Caracciolo and Guusje Eekelen in the No. 3 doubles battle.
Two Colonels earned wins in the singles portion of the match. Trinh won her third-straight with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Guilarte in a battle that took an extra set to decide. Black is also a winner of three-straight as she took a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win against Caracciolo.
Mitchell fought to a tiebreaker in the final set of a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) setback in the top spot with Patino. Herring also forced a tiebreaker in her first set in the No. 4 match that ended 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in favor of Caro. Williams and
Sophie Maddux fell in the other two singles matches. A 6-3, 6-3 loss befell Williams versus Guilarte while Maddux dropped 6-1, 6-2 to Isadora Lima
