LEXINGTON, Va. - The Centre women's tennis team closed the spring break Virginia swing with a 9-0 setback to No. 11 Washington & Lee on Thursday evening.
Two of the Gold & White doubles squads earned two game wins each.
Carlie Mitchell and
Kennedy Herring fell 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles against Margaret Carlton and Grace Lorenz while
Kayla Harger and
Natalie Black lost by the same result to Izzy Koziol and Haley Stoltz in the third-ranked duos competition.
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams dropped an 8-0 decision to Lauren Long and Gabi Moss in the top doubles spot.
Five of the six Colonels won at least one game in singles competition with four of those members of the Gold & White earning multiple game wins. Williams won seven games versus Moss in a 6-4, 6-3 loss in the second-ranked match to the No. 37 ranked player in Division III. The other battle with a ranked opponent saw Mitchell win two games in a 6-0, 6-2 setback to No. 20 Long in the top singles slot.
Black won the second-most games of any Centre player in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Riho Iijima in the No. 5 match. Trinh tallied two game wins in No. 3 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Annie Jennings.
Sophie Maddux earned one game win in a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the sixth spot that went the way of the General's Jordan Kach. Herring fell 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth-ranked singles match to Koziol.
