DANVILLE, Ky. - The Colonels of the Centre women's tennis team fell by the slimmest of margins in a 5-4 setback to an undefeated Asbury University team on Thursday afternoon.
Doubles proved to be another highlight for the Gold & White.
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams, 5-1 as a pair, proved to be winners yet again with an 8-1 decision over Megan Moore and Martina Paillet in the No. 1 match.
Kayla Harger and
Natalie Black won 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match over Mikaela West and Kourtney Kawata.
Kennedy Herring and
Carlie Mitchell fell in a close 8-6 battle in the No. 2 match versus Ariadna Zegarra and Fernanda Heredia.
Two Colonel wins came in the singles portion of the afternoon. Trinh won the second-ranked solos game by a tally of 7-5, 6-3 over Paillet. Herring earned the other Centre win in singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Moore.
Williams put up a tough fight in the No. 1 match but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to Zegarra. Black forced three sets, including a first frame where she blanked her opponent, in a No. 4 setback that went 6-0, 4-6, 2-6 in favor of Heredia.
Abby Jamison took her third outing of the season to an extra set as she fell 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 to Malory Watkins in the sixth-slotted match.
Sophie Maddux fell in the No. 5 position 6-2, 6-2 to Kawata.

Two more home matches are left for the Gold & White and both are conference matches. Centre hosts Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. and SAA member Birmingham-Southern on the following day at the same time.
