DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre men's tennis team fell 8-1 to No. 16 Sewanee in the squad's first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) bout of the season.
The Colonels fell to 5-7 and 0-1 in the SAA with the Saturday result.
Each doubles team earned multiple game wins against the ranked Tigers.
Ben Rueff and
Ashton Whitt led the way with five game wins in their 8-5 loss to Peyton Erck and Mark Motlow in the second-rated match.
Chase Turley and
Jasper Gazzo, who fell 8-4 to Gil Weston and Talman Ramsey as the No. 3 duo, were second in game wins for the Gold & White.
Bo Bush and
Ty Bush were setback in the top doubles spot by Quinn Wicklund and Jordan Theron with a score of 8-2.
Ty Bush picked up his second-straight win with an extra-set triumph in the No. 3 singles match. The sophomore played to a hard-fought 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 win to notch the lone point for the Gold & White on Saturday.
Rueff came close to an upset in a 7-5, 6-4 loss in the top singles match with Theron. Gazzo had a close first set in a 7-6, 6-2 setback in the six spot. Both
Bo Bush and
Isaac Flanery earned seven game wins each in singles play. Bush fell 6-3, 6-4 to Weston in the No. 5 match and Flanery was topped by Ramsey in the No. 4 match by a 6-4, 6-3 score. Whitt fell in a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Erck in the second-ranked singles match.
