JACKSON, Miss. – Centre softball took down Millsaps College by a tally of 4-3 in the final game of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels enter April with a record of 11-17 overall and an SAA record of 4-8.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Majors scored early in the series finale. A double, after a runner was plated via walk, scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first.
- Centre answered back in the next half inning.
Cheney Floyd led off the second frame with a triple to center field. Then, following a ground out,
Sam Rogers hit a single up the middle that sent Floyd home to tie the contest 1-1.
- Millsaps tacked on another run in the bottom of the second via a double that followed a walk.
- The run that won the game for the Colonels came via the bat of
Andrea Searcy in the top of the third. After an
Izzy Rushing single and a
Kaylee Gregory double, Searcy hit a home run to left field, her first of the season, that moved the score to 4-2 in favor of the Gold & White.
- In the bottom of the fifth the Majors made things interesting after an RBI single pulled the home team within one run of a tie. Thankfully for Centre the 4-3 lead held the rest of the way.
- Gregory started in the circle for the Colonels and hurled for four and two-thirds innings. She struck out two in her win.
Lucy Baseheart earned the save with two strikeouts over two and a third innings pitched. She allowed one hit and no runs in her time in the circle.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday marked the 11th time this season that the Gold & White have had 10 or more hits in a game.
- The number 11 is also the number of games Centre softball has had at least one home run in after Searcy's homer on Saturday.
