DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's track & field hosted the Centre Invitational inside Andy Frye Stadium and came away with a huge victory as four new school records were set.
The first race of the day was the 10k and
Lily Matthiessen finished second overall as she posted a time of 43:08.63. In other distance events,
Erin Haugh clocked in at 2:23.26 to take third overall in the 800m. Meanwhile, in the 5k,
Gracie West led five Colonels in the scoring column with a second place time of 18:34.39.
Cara Taylor,
Rachel Gaynor,
Maddie Riley and
Jessie Strader all earned points in the 5k alongside West to give Centre 24 points for the race.
The first school record to go down was the 4x100m relay as the team of
Amari Robinson,
Jasmine Claunch,
Chloe Hein and
Madjo Doumbia earned the win with a time of 48.38. In the 4x400m relay, Hein and Doumbia teamed with
Janea Bottinelli and
Ainsley Wilson to take first place with a time of 3:58.67.
In the hurdles,
Callie Gormley took fourth place in the 110m with a time of 16.28, with Bottinelli finishing right behind in 16.70. The 400m hurdles saw Bottinelli pick up the win with a time of 1:06.53, with
Arden Campbell taking seventh overall in the race.
Much like the relays belonged to the Centre women, so too did the sprints. Doumbia, Hein and Robinson all posted top-five finishes in the 100m, with Doumbia getting the win in 12.22. In the 200m, Doumbia earned another victory and set a new school record with a time of 24.82, with Robinson and Wilson also scoring in that race.
In throws,
Lauren Foutch entered and won in three competitions, posting top marks of 159-11 in the hammer, 41-4.5 in the shot put and 133-11 in the discus.
Lindsay Jessie scored in all three of those events as well, while
Lindsey Browning took sixth in the shot put. In the javelin,
Dayanara Mendez finished fourth overall with a mark of 104-4, with Gormley finishing right behind her at 102-8.
The last two records to fall came in the jumping events, starting in the long jump as All-American
Chloe Hein posted a mark of 19-0 to get first place and set a new program record. In the triple jump, four-time All-American
Jasmine Claunch added nearly another inch to her previous school record as she posted a mark of 40-7.5 to get the win, with
Serena McNeilly and
Shelby Smith giving Centre a 1-2-3 finish. The high jump saw
Claire Ackerman and
Riley Brown each clear 4-9 to give the Colonels 10.5 more points. Finally, in the pole vault,
Jessica Peterson cleared 7-6.5 to finish third overall.
NEXT UP
The Colonels will head to Indiana next week to compete in the Huntsman Family Invitational at Wabash.
