Colonels fall to Pioneers 4-3 in midweek clash

DANVILLE, Ky. – On the heels of a successful opening conference weekend, the Centre baseball team returned home to face the Transylvania Pioneers. The Pioneers scored a run in the ninth inning to get a 4-3 win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels were the first to crack the scoreboard in the third inning as Josh Cunningham was hit by a pitch, advanced on a balk, and eventually scored on a base hit by Ben Prather.
- Transylvania staged a two-out rally in the fourth, scoring three runs on a bases loaded walk and a two-RBI single.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Chase Austin led off with a base hit up the middle. Prather doubled into the gap to make it a 3-2 ballgame and the Colonels later tied the score on an error.
- Centre escaped a jam in the top of the eighth as Ayden Lohr fired a strike to the plate to nail a runner attempting to score on a sacrifice fly.
- With two outs in the ninth and a runner on second, the Pioneers regained the lead after a timely shot to the gap. The Colonels got the tying run with one out in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't get the runner across.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Prather was credited with both of Centre's RBIs and was the only Centre player with multiple hits in the game.
- Centre pitchers struck out 11 Transy batters, led by starter Aidan Christmas with five in three innings.
