LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's tennis team took on a Division I opponent in Bellarmine University on Friday afternoon. The second-straight match against in-state competition ended 7-0 in favor of the Knights.
The Colonels sit at 3-2 overall after the trip up north.
The Gold & White started the day with doubles, which were scored as one decision per Division I rules. The closest doubles match came in the three spot, where Luke English and Tanner Ray won three games over Wynn Shioi and Vineet Ramesh in an eventual 6-3 loss. Bo Bush and Ty Bush fell in the No. 1 doubles team slot 6-2 to Jack Batchelor and Matthew Nice. The same score applied to Ben Rueff and Ashton Whitt as they dropped the second-ranked doubles battle to Eli Wood and Xavier Ecarma.
Two Centre players scored six wins each in the closest singles matches of the day. Ty Bush pushed hard in a 6-4, 6-2 loss in the No. 3 match to Loulie Fletcher, while Jasper Gazzo posted the same tally in the six spot to Shioi. Bo Bush was also competitive in his 6-2, 6-3 setback to Escarma in the match's No. 5 spot. Rueff and Whitt each won two games in their respective singles battles. Rueff fell 6-0, 6-2 to Nice in the top spot while Whitt dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Kyle Tang in the No. 2 singles match. The four-hole was a 6-0, 6-0 loss for Jett Anderson versus Eli Wood.
The Colonels are back in the Seabury Family Tennis Center tomorrow morning. Centre takes on Hanover College at 11 a.m. ET in a return to DIII play.
