DANVILLE, Ky. - A return home was kind to Centre men's tennis as they thumped Hanover 8-1 inside the Seabury Family Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels are 4-2 on the season and an impressive 4-1 at home so far in the spring season.
Anderson Gosnell and
Isaac Flanery moved to a perfect 2-0 in doubles play on the 2024 season with an 8-5 win over Ashley Hunter and Pedro Macedo in the No. 2 doubles match. The No. 3 doubles squad also won 8-5 thanks to great play by
Tanner Ray and
Emerson Dean, who are 2-0 in doubles action this year.
Chase Turley and
Emilo Ventura Ramirez fell in the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 to Joey Keal and Charley Williams.
Singles matches went all in Centre's favor in the weekend battle. Flanery won 6-1, 6-0 in dominating fashion in the top spot over Hunter. The second slot needed a tie breaker for Turley to take down Keal 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in his first singles win of the year. Gosnell remained undefeated in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 tally in the No. 3 match. Ventura Ramirez, also unblemished in solo play, won 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth-ranked spot over Williams. Dean kept his record perfect with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 tally in No. 5 action. To round out the match, Ray won his second-straight No. 6 singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ilya Gromochenko.
The Colonels will be on the road for the next five matches. The road swing starts tomorrow, March 10, at the University of the Cumberlands with a 1 p.m. ET match.
