Colonels topple Sewanee on Senior Day

DANVILLE, Ky.- On Saturday, Centre men's lacrosse hosted Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Sewanee for their 2024 Senior Day Celebrations. Although a close first half, the Colonels downed Sewanee 19-8, clinching the 2024 SAA Men's Lacrosse regular season title.
 

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels quickly gained the lead, going up 4-1 in the opening frame. Ridr Knowlton opened the scoring followed by successive goals from David Caldwell, Knowlton again, and Ryan Hall. The Tigers closed the scoring with their first score with a minute on the clock, shifting the score to 4-1 entering period two. 
- Caldwell initiated the second with the helper from Knowlton. Sewanee claimed the next followed by successive scores from Hall and Max Speers. Just after, the Tigers ignited, placing four successive into the back of the net to make it 7-6 heading into the break.
- Out of the halftime, Centre dominated with six goals compared to the Tigers' zero. With Sewanee remaining scoreless and Griffin Weiss, Gavin Fields, and Noah Malubay joining the scoring column, Centre led 13-6 entering the final frame.
- The momentum continued to swing in the Colonels favor, bettering the Tigers 6-2 in the quarter. By the end of regulation, Ryan Black joined the scoring column as Centre bettered their SAA foe 19-8.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Knowlton, Caldwell, and Black tied for the game's leader in points, each having four. 
- At the face-off, Centre favored, going 18-31 while Sewanee went 13-31.
- In goal, Avi Leffler and Hayden Burns split time, together the two stopped five.
- Centre favored in shots, ground balls, face offs, and man-up opportunities.

Men's lacrosse will remain in Danville for the Quarterfinals of the SAA Men's Lacrosse Conference tournament.
