Women's track earns victory at Centre Twilight

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's track & field team, ranked tenth in the nation in the most recent USTFCCCA rankings, picked up another meet victory at the Centre Twilight as they used their superior depth to get the win.
 
Beginning with sprints, Jasmine Claunch finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.96, followed immediately by Joyner Jikang in fifth place. In the 400m, Ainsley Wilson finished fifth with a time of 1:01.06, with Janea Bottinelli taking seventh in 1:01.17.
 
The longer races produced a large portion of the points for the Centre women. The Colonels scored 21 points in the 800m as Adelyn Shupert earned the victory in 2:20.60, with Kate Keller, Anna Shupert, Emma Musgrave and Layce Sanner all cracking the top eight as well. In the 1500m, Musgrave finished fifth overall with a time of 5:12.79. The 5k was another huge point event as the Colonels racked up 28 points for the race. Sophie Bouldin got the win with a time of 17:39.33, with Gracie West in second, Cara Taylor in fourth, Rachel Gaynor in sixth and Marissa Polio in seventh. In the 3000m steeplechase, Erin Haugh picked up a win with a time of 11:57.71, with Jessie Strader finishing in seventh.
 
The 110m hurdles saw Bottinelli take second place overall with a time of 16.74, followed immediately by Callie Gormley and Jikang. In the 400m hurdles, Arden Campbell got the win with a time of 1:14.55, with Jikang taking third place overall.
 
The jumping events featured more strong performances from the Centre women. All-American Serena McNeilly earned first place in the high jump with a clear of 5-3, with Claire Ackerman finishing third. Jessica Peterson cleared 7-6.5 to take third place in the pole vault. All-American Chloe Hein posted a mark of 18-1 to take second place in the long jump, with Claunch and McNeilly finishing right behind her in order. In the triple jump, Shelby Smith finished in third place with a mark of 34-9.5.
 
In throws, Lauren Foutch entered in three events and won all three of them, posting winning marks of 38-10.5 in the shot put, 139-0 in the discus and 153-8 in the hammer. Lindsey Browning, Lindsay Jessie and Lillie Whitaker-Greer combined for 29 points in those three events alongside Foutch's 30. The javelin produced a different set of scoring throwers for the Centre women as Gormley took second place with a mark of 94-6, followed by Dayanara Mendez in third and Peterson in fifth.

The Colonels will be back in action on Apr. 19 with the Jim Green Invitational at the University of Kentucky.
