SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Centre baseball team suffered its first loss in the month of April as the Sewanee Tigers prevented a Colonels sweep in Sunday's series finale, defeating Centre 11-5.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got on the board first as
Michael Lynch, on fire during the whole series, blasted a solo homer to lead off the second inning.
- The Sewanee bats caught fire over the next two innings as they put up four runs in each frame to take a commanding lead.
- An RBI double from
Evan Weyler and another RBI from Lynch gave Centre two runs in the third, and they continued to cut into the lead in the fourth as
Conner Jackson scored on a balk to make it 8-4.
- Centre chipped away yet again in the fifth as
Ben Prather legged out an infield hit, stole second, advanced to third and eventually scored on a
Chase Austin sacrifice fly.
- A Sewanee two-run homer in the seventh put an end to the Centre momentum and the Tigers tacked on an insurance run to cap off the scoring for the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lynch led the Centre offense again after going 3-4 with a pair of RBIs. For the series, the Centre sophomore first baseman hit .545 with seven RBIs and home runs in the final two games.

Centre baseball will begin a week full of home games on Tuesday night as they host the Berea Mountaineers in a game rescheduled from the previous week due to weather.
