ROME, Ga. - The final stop of the weekend for the Centre women's tennis team was unkind to the Colonels as Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Berry College took down the team 9-0.
Despite the lopsided score, the match was full of close contests.
Kayla Harger and
Natalie Black forced a tiebreaker in the third-ranked singles battle that went 8-7 (7-2) in favor of Olivia Walton and Angelle Thornton. The other two doubles matches had the exact same scores in favor of the Vikings. No. 1 seeded
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams fell 8-4 to Lauren Masteller and Juliana Mascagni while
Carlie Mitchell and
Kennedy Herring had the same result in the second-slotted match versus Lacey Craig and Sara Mejia.
Every Centre player won at least two game wins in singles play, and four out of five won at least four games. Williams played to a third set in the top spot in a 6-1, 2-6, 2-6 setback to Masteller. Black won the next most games as she fell 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 5 match against Walton. Trinh won six games but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-3 to Mejia in the third slot.
Herring picked up five game wins in a No. 4 match that swung to Craig by a tally of 6-2, 6-3. Mitchell was in the second-ranked game and fell to Mascagni 6-1, 6-3. Harger fell 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth singles match to Thornton.

Two more regular-season matches remain for the Colonels and both are on the road. The Gold & White face Hendrix on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. and Rhodes the following day at the same time.
