Colonels open SAA Tournament with 4-3 comeback win over Millsaps

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team began the SAA opening round best-of-three series against Millsaps with a dramatic game 1, as the Colonels overcame a 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 victory.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- In the opening innings it was the Majors who got off to the hot start as the first two Millsaps hitters singled, both eventually scoring. Millsaps tacked on another run in the second for a quick 3-0 lead.
- The Centre bats finally got something going in the sixth. Michael Lynch lifted a fly ball that landed just out of the right fielder's grasp for a double. After Ayden Lohr walked, the Colonels were down to their last out of the inning when Aaron Lopez hit a blooper for a base hit that scored Lynch.
- With runners on the corners, the Colonels pulled off a successful double steal with Lohr and Lopez to cut the lead to 3-2 as Lohr slid underneath the tag for the steal of home.
- In the seventh, Josh Cunningham ripped one down the line for a leadoff double. Ben Prather then hit one up the middle to bring in Cunningham for the tying run.
- After advancing to second after a walk and stealing third, Prather eventually scored the go-ahead run after a textbook sacrifice bunt by Lohr.
- In the top of the eighth, Millsaps got the leadoff runner on with a walk, but Evan Weyler gunned down an attempted steal of second to put an end to that threat as Zach Heavern struck out the next two hitters to get to the ninth.
- Heavern struck out the first two batters he faced in the top of the ninth and forced a line drive right into Lynch's glove at first for the 27th out of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Lohr finished 2-2 at the plate with the eventual game-winning RBI and a run scored.
- Heavern was fantastic out of the pen for the Colonels, throwing 3.1 no-hit innings with seven strikeouts to record his fifth victory of the season.
