Softball falls just short in SAA Tournament exit

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Centre softball rallied late after falling behind 3-0 but ultimately fell 3-2 to Sewanee in the Colonels' final game of the 2024 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Softball Tournament.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tigers got off to a hot start in the first inning. A home run to left field with two runners already on, gave Sewanee a 3-0 advantage.
- Centre's offense seemed to stall with no Colonels reaching base until the bottom of the fifth. That fifth frame saw Cheney Floyd reach first on an error to become the first of the Gold & White on base. Lydia Rice was up next and reached on a fielder's choice.
- The first hit of the game for the Colonels came in that same frame. Rylie Bentley hit a single up the middle which was followed by an Abby Duncan single to second base.
- In the following inning Centre got a run on the board. An error plated Ogle and singles from Andrea Searcy and Kaylee Gregory loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly from Floyd scored Ogle.
- Facing the possible end of the season, the Colonels entered a do-or-die seventh frame. Sam Rogers pinch hit to lead off and advanced to second after an error by the left fielder. Two outs followed, making Ogle's at-bat a crucial one. The sophomore delivered and hit a double to score Bentley. It was not enough as the Tigers got the final out and won 3-2.
- Mia Tomillo got the pitching start for Centre and went one inning. Lucy Baseheart hurled the final five and struck out two and allowed no runs on four hits.

WRAPPING UP
The Colonels finished the season with a 16-23 overall mark after going 8-10 in the SAA.
