DANVILLE, Ky. - Two matches in two days equaled two wins for Centre women's tennis after a 7-2 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opponent Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
With the win, the Colonels moved to 2-1 in the SAA and 6-7 overall.
The top two doubles matches were wins for the Gold & White.
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams won their third-straight match in the top spot with an 8-5 victory over Blakely Valdez and Phoebe Shapard.
Carlie Mitchell and
Kennedy Herring's 8-1 win over Anna Beth Giles and Meg Griffin in the battle of No. 2 pairs is the duo's second-straight win.
Kayla Harger and
Natalie Black fell 8-6 in the final doubles match.
All but one singles match resulted in wins for Centre. Trinh won her third consecutive match with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 tally over Abbie Bateh in the third spot. Williams has won two in a row after her 6-1, 6-4 victory in the top singles match versus Valdez. Mitchell got back in the win column with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shapard in the No 2 competition.
The next singles match to finish was a 6-2, 7-5 win for Black over Bentley in the No. 5 match.
Sophie Maddux was next to finish and fell 6-1, 6-1 to Weeks in the final-ranked battle. The final match was a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 win for Herring over Giles in the fourth-slotted match.
