Men’s soccer pounces on Panthers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three different Centre men's soccer team members scored to give the Colonels a 3-1 win over Hanover College on Sunday night.

Centre left the JR Hoe Invitational hosted by Spalding University a perfect 2-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta picked up where he left off on Friday and scored yet another goal. The junior used his head in the eighth minute to notch a goal, which was assisted by a corner kick from Alec McAlister.
- In the 38th minute, the Colonels got on the board again on a wild play. A Hanover player stopped an attempted Centre cross and the Panther keeper lept for the ball. The goalie lost possession as he hit the ground and Tyler Smith snuck up and kicked the ball in to increase the lead to 2-0.
- Jafet Figueroa had his second assist in as many games with a corner kick in the 66th minute that found Drew Davidson's head and then the back of the net.
- Hanover stopped the shutout with a goal in the 74th minute, but the Colonels still notched an impressive 3-1 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Drew Davidson and Amit Shahar led Centre in shots with two each. Both of Davidson's shots were on goal.
- Both goal scorers in the match also scored in the first match of the invitational with Deem-Ranzetta now having three goals on the early season and Davidson having two.
- The assist for Jafet Figueroa was the second on the year for the freshman, with both coming in his hometown of Louisville.
- Shots were almost even for both teams as the Colonels led in total shots 11-10 and 5-4 in shots on goal.
- Brendan Egan once again played all 90 minutes in goal for Centre. He stopped three shots that came his way.
- The back-to-back wins to open the season have pushed the Colonels to the team's best start since 2018.
