Colonels fall to Pioneers in ranked matchup

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The no. 20 Centre volleyball team made the short trip up the road for a clash between two AVCA top 25 teams as they faced the no. 25 Transylvania Pioneers for the second time in less than a week. This matchup went to the host Pioneers, who took it in four sets to split the season series.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Transylvania utilized a pair of short runs to grab the edge in the first set. The Colonels managed to cut the deficit to two points at 20-18, but the Pioneers scored five of the final six points to take a 25-19 win.
- The second set saw Centre grab the early lead and keep it, holding off Transylvania at every turn and preventing them from taking the lead. Leading 24-22, the Pioneers fought off two set points to tie the score, but Ally Knueven responded with a kill and an ace to even the match with a 26-24 victory.
- The Colonels had to battle from behind for a majority of the third set, but took advantage of some miscues by their opponents and rallied to take the lead at 19-17. Transylvania scored the next four points before Centre bounced back to tie it at 23-23, but the Pioneers got the next two to win it by a 25-23 margin.
- The Pioneers kept the momentum going into the fourth set as they did not register an attack error the whole way and never trailed, winning the match with a 25-12 victory.
