Men’s soccer rolls to third-straight win

DANVILLE, Ky. – The first home match of 2024 for Centre men's soccer was a rainy affair that ended with a 2-0 win over Elmhurst University on Friday night.

The Colonels are winners of three-straight matches and enter the rest of the Bob Allen Nissan Classic with a 3-0 record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first half was about as tight and even as a match could get. Both teams got two shots on goal and both were stopped by the keepers. The Colonels had a slight edge in total shots 8-5 and held the ball for 56 percent of the opening frame.
- Senior Taylor Nelson notched his first goal of the season in the 55th minute to pull ahead in the stalemate. A corner kick from Alec McAlister landed perfectly on target, in this case Nelson's head, and then went into the net to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Gold & White.
- In the 60th minute, Ryan O' Hara sent a ball left to Drew Davidson who sent the ball between two defenders and past a leaping keeper in the final goal of a 2-0 win for Centre.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Drew Davidson has scored a goal in all three matches so far this season. It is the first time in his career the senior has scored in consecutive games.
- Brendan Egan played all 90 minutes in goal for Centre and stopped 10 shots. It is just the second time in his career that he stopped double-digit attempts.
- A total of 10 Colonels took at least one shot. Davidson was the only member of the Gold & White with multiple attempts as he tallied four.
- Ryan O'Hara's assist was the first of his collegiate career and Alec McAlister's helper was his second of the season.
- The Colonels continue to build on the squad's best start since 2018, when Centre won six-straight matches to open the season and went on to make the NCAA Tournament.
