SEWANEE, Tenn.- Centre women's basketball traveled to Tennessee to face the Tigers in a repeat of last week's conference meeting. The Colonels' fourth quarter run made the difference, downing the Tigers by a score of 65-52 to improve to a 14-6 mark, 5-2 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The contest opened at a competitive pace, neither team taking more than a four-point lead in the initial ten minutes.
Katelyn Stiltner and
Arin Nipp initiated the game from the paint, Sewanee answering in similar fashion. In the final three minutes,
Ryleigh Campbell,
Lilly Reid,
Bailey Rucker, and Stiltner put down seven unanswered points to take the lead (17-14) entering the second quarter.
- Sewanee evened the score from behind the arc seconds into the next period, and up until media time-out, the score remained tied at 19-19. With three and a half minutes to go, Rucker initiated a 10-3 scoring streak to give Centre a seven-point edge entering the halftime break.
- Out of the locker room, the Colonels stretched the deficit to eight thanks to a pair of lay-ups from Stiltner followed by another from Rucker. Unrelenting, the Tigers outscored the Gold & White 12-6 in the remaining six minutes to set the score at Centre 41, Sewanee 37 entering the final frame.
- The Tigers made it a one-point game two minutes into the fourth period. Just after, the Colonels made their largest offensive push yet, taking a double figure lead with a 14-4 run featuring five points from Reid and a three from Campbell. Sewanee chipped the lead back to single digits before
Ka'Niah Edelen netted two at the line followed by Reid who concluded the scoring from the paint. When time ran out, the final was set at Centre 65, Sewanee 52.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels held three athletes with double digit points. Rucker led with 12, Reid followed with 11, and
Lindsay Jessie tallied ten.
- Stiltner nearly doubled all athletes off the glass with 12 rebounds.
- Stiltner and Reid tied for game's leader in assists with five apiece.
- The Colonels dominated in bench points, having 31 to the Tigers' three.
- Centre possessed the lead for 32 of the 40 minutes.
