Esports Mid-October Recap

10/22/2025 3:43:00 PM

Centre Esports has had a busy October. Here's how the Colonels have fared:

League of Legends vs Middle Tennessee State (10/5/25): Win 2-1
In game 1, Centre ran Dr. Mundo, Amumu, Smolder, Veigar, and Sona. While MTSU took an early lead in kills and dragons, Centre won out in most major teamfights. Much of this was thanks to Nick Minton (orbiterpluto)'s excellent support utility in the mid and late game that allowed the Colonels to exert great team fight pressure when grouped up. He finished with 21 assists. In game two, Centre's draft picks were not as effective into MTSU's comp. MTSU's pick of Ambessa and Lux specially were able to deal massive damage and disrupted Centre in the top and mid lanes and earning them a strong lead on turrets. In game 3, Centre played Pantheon, Maokai, Lux, Sivir, and Milio. The round was relatively even. Even as Centre would find small leads in gold or kills, MTSU kept close behind and still took plenty of objectives. Things really turned around after a pivotal teamfight in the midlane at the 34 minute mark where Gabriel Habeeb (esteramu)'s Pantheon managed to pick up a triple kill. Soon after Centre was able to start pressuring the inhibitors and snowball to victory. Winter Collins (MandaloreTheWise) also put up an impressive showing dealing 42,624 damage on Sivir.

Rocket League vs Columbus State (10/5/25): Win 3-2 (2-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-2, 1-0)
This was by far the tightest game of the season so far. The series saw phenomenal defense from both programs, but a series of unfortunate misses from CSU and precise passing plays from the Colonels allowed them to clinch the win. Round 1 saw two beautiful goals from Duroxy, with the second happening with zero seconds left thanks to an accidental assist from a CSU player. Round 2 saw no goals from the Centre despite 9 shot attempts. A beautiful passing play from Sush to Duroxy opened round 3 with a bang right off the opening kickoff but the round quickly devolved into more defense. Round 4 was exceptionally even as both teams traded goals to enter overtime. With the score 2-2 in the final round, both teams played brought their best on defense allowing the clock to go all the way down to 6 seconds remaining before ACKess scored the game winning goal off the top crossbar with a pass from Duroxy.

League of Legends vs University of Florida (10/9/25): Loss 2-0
Both Centre and UF Club Black entered this match with an undefeated 2-0 record. Centre played without MetroMina this week, instead swapping esteramu into the midlane position. During the first round Centre utilized a sustain team comp consisting of Yasuo, Urgot, Vi, Nami and Viegar; while UFC Black employed a more balanced comp composed of Garren, Cassiopeia, Smolder, Millio and Lillia. The first match was an exceptionally long running 45 minutes with Centre losing 18-21-30. Notably, MadaloretheWise, AKA Winter Collins, finished the round with 49k damage and 12 of the team's 18 kills. The second round Centre utilized a tankier comp containing Illaoi, Sejuani, Galio, Aurelion Sol and Braum; on the other hand UFC Black utilized a more split style comp using both tank and burst strength composed of Garen, Amumu, Lissandra, Kai' Sa and Alistar. This match saw Centre expereiment with new team comps for the first time this season--definitely something to watch as the team continues to develop.

Marvel Rivals vs Florida Southern College (10/12/25): Loss 3-0
Round 1 saw Centre running their standard 1-3-2 composition with Balke "BigSoup" Shrewsberry being the soul Vanguard of the team. Centre would open strong against Florida Southern's damage heavy composition, winning the first thrid of round 1. The following match-ups would swing in Florida's favor as they changed their composition to a healing focused one to win out over Centre in round 1. Round 2 would see Centre's 2-2-2 composition with Nate "Minnelism" Brantley coming in as a fellow Vanguard. Centre would struggle to maintain control of the objective and swap up their composition to a 2-1-3 with a Mantis as a strategist rather than a second duelist. Some clever ults by Centre's strategists would see them maintain some control. Despite this, Florida Southern was able to retaliate and win out in the second round over Centre. Round 3 would see a never-before-seen lineup from Centre as Caleb "Powers" Pelanne would takle a Vanguard slot on Venom for the offense. Centre would nearly secure the first point, but a cleverly timed teleport from Florida Southern prevented the Colonels from gaining the extra time to have a chance in round 3.

Valorant vs Florida Polytechnic (10/13/25): Win 2-0 (13-7, 13-5)
Centre started this series by creating a team composition that was very aggressive. Since they started the first map on attack, their team composition heavily complimented their map positions. With highly aggressive plays, Centre took a lead going into halftime where the teams switch sides. Centre understood that their aggressive playstyle wouldn't translate well to a defensive strategy so Centre waited for Florida Poly to take over a site before going on the offensive and treating the round like they were flanking on attack. This led to a substantial lead that couldn't be addressed before Centre won the first map. In the second map, Centre went for a similarly aggressive team composition despite starting the map on defense. This choice came with clear drawbacks seen in the abysmal start of map 2 for Centre. Centre quickly changed strategies to be more spread out and start each round with small fights. This worked well because not only did it deter flankers, but if one of Centre's players found themselves dying after being collapsed on then the rest of the team had an opportunity to recroup before reengaging. This strategy was successful up to halftime where Centre had a substantial lead. This lead was so significant that once Centre was able to purchase expensive guns they were able to use the economy to finsh the map without having to form a concrete strategy. With that win Centre takes the series. Aaron "performative man" Klein finished this series with a whopping 42 kills.

Rocket League vs Central Michigan (10/14/25): Loss 2-1 (4-3, 0-6, 0-4); vs Daytona State: Loss 2-0 (1-5. 2-5)
Despite their PBC match being postponed, Centre RL still competed this week by enrolling in a placement tourney for the upcoming Bluegrass Boost Battle LAN event at UK. The event draws in top collegiate talent from around the country with over 100 teams fighting in online qualifiers to secure a spot in the top 16 who compete in Lexington. While the Colonels had some success in the opening round vs Central Michigan, they did not ultimately qualify for the LAN. These two matches were not on stream.

Rocket League vs Georgia College and State University (10/19/25): Win 2-1 (5-2, 3-1, 2-3, 1-0)
A major win for Centre that has allowed them to tie up their season record to date! Round 1 started off incredibly strong with 4 goals scored in a row. GCSU answered back with two of their own off of some lucky touches. Centre ended the round with five points total—two from ACKess and 2 from Sush. ACKess started round 2 with a goal 10 seconds in assisted by Sush. GCSU found their equalizer over 3 minutes later, but with 30 seconds left, Duroxy gave Centre their lead back with some beautiful air-dribbling to just barely slot the ball above the defenders. For good, measure, less than 10 seconds later, he slots another one in in a solo play off the backwall. Certainly the standout moment of the series. Despite an early lead, Centre would lose in round 3. Determined to clean up their defense, neither team would score in round 4, sending the match to Overtime. The stalemate was broken 1:29 in by Duroxy with an assist from ACKess. Next week, Centre RL will take on the top seed of the conference, KSU.

League of Legends vs UNC Wilmington (10/19/25): Win 2-0
During the first match, Centre utilized a comp heavily focused on early game consisting of Lux, Maokai, Milio, Sivir and Mordekaiser. On the other hand UNCW used a late game comp consisting of Viegar, Kai'sa, Warwick, Morgana, and Dr.Mundo. The round was quick--only 20 minutes long with Centre finishing 23-3-18. Lumberjack, playing Moredkaiser, went 8-0 with 19k in damage, the highest of the match. The second round was more evenly balanced with both teams utilizing an early to mid game comp. Estramu, playing Gragas, had an incredible play, with an assist from MetroMina, in which he picked off UNCW's Nunu & Willump with exceedingly low hp. Centre finished the round 31-14-48, securing the win and showing off some incredible skill in the process.

Marvel Rivals vs Georgia College and State University (10/19/25): Win 3-1
Starting off the series against Georgia College State University, Centre ran their typical 2-2-2 composition for round 1. Caleb "Powers" Pelanne seems to be getting quite comfortable in the Vanguard role as he got the opening pick that allowed Centre to secure the point first. Round 1 was full of long and drawn out fights, yet the Colonels came out on top after some meticulously placed ultimates by Jacob "Carp" Carpenter. Round 2 went down to the thinnest wire resulting in a draw. There were some unorthodox yet effective character selections from the side of Centre that allowed them to hold the objective and not let GCSU get a single percentage captured. Unfortunately, GCSU would pull out some tactics of their own to hault the Colonels on offense resulting in the first draw of the season. Round 3 would be another nail-biting matchup that went right down to a last minute overtime. Many points looked dire, but the ultimates from Centre's Strategists Leigh "Blue_Ibis" Wingfeld and Justin "JayFreak67" Lewis saved the day and allowed Centre to continue on. At the end of the half, Centre was able to stop GCSU right before the finish and swapped to attack. The attack was tense, as the Colonels went to overtime multiple times, but they came out on top making the score 2-0 after round 3. Round 4, back to the same gamemode as round 1, was a strange turn of events in GCSU's favor as Centre struggled to find the right composition of characters. Round 4 would end with Centre not able to capture the objective at all making the score 2-1. In the fifth and final round, the Colonels put Caleb "Powers" Pelanne onto the Duelist role on Storm where he undoubtedly earned MVP. Having 29 eliminations without being eliminated yourself is nothing to scoff at! In the end, Centre would win round 5, and the series, with the ending score of 3-1 against GCSU.

Marvel Rivals vs North Georgia (10/20/25): Loss 3-0
Centre went into round 1 against the University of North Georgia knowing it would be a struggle as North Georgia is the only undefeated team in the conference. Nonetheless, the Colonels fought with all their might! The round started off very promising with Centre getting the opening pick to start the round, yet the opposing fire was too much and Centre was forced into their spawn room. After a defeat in the first fight, the Colonels struggled to see the point as North Georgia continued their aggression until the very end causing the Colonels to lose round 1. Round 2 would be a similar story to round 1. North Georgia would get the opening pick, however, and force the Colonels to fight from their spawn yet again. There were moments of promise as Centre began to advance close to the end of the round and even capture 92% of the objective, but they'd end unfruitful as North Georgia would take control of the objective and ultimately the round making the score 0-2. In round 3, both teams used unorthodox comps. Centre pulled out their three Vanguards and three Strategists composition while North Georgia played with four Duelists and two Strategists. In the end, the teams would have major deja-vu as Centre struggled to leave the spawn as North Georgia would claim the objective and win the series.

Centre Esports continues with the action tonight in the CRL Open Fall Tournament followed by a full slate of games this weekend.
