Danville, KY - Centre Esports continued the regular season grind with a host of matches in the last week-plus. Here's how the Colonels fared:
Rocket League vs University of Arkansas (3/7/26): Win 4-1 (4-1, 4-1, 1-2, 4-3, 3-2)
Centre Rocket League's undefeated streak continues! Game one and two saw the same exact scoreline with the Colonels greatly outpacing 4-1. Centre's goals came largely from team plays like passes and having teammates disrupt defenders with bumps and demos. UArk turned the pressure up in the third game by taking an early lead. K2Winterpath (
Charles McGuin) answered back off beautiful pass from Sush (
Grant Walker) in the final minute, but UArk found another with 32 seconds left to prevent the clean sweep. The Colonels took another strong lead in game 3, but managed to let 3 from UArk slip past right at the end of the round forcing an overtime. A clean solo goal from Sush 47 seconds into overtime brought Centre to match point. The final round remained close throughout with UArk showing stronger offense. 4 incredible saves from ACKess (
Adam Kessinger) allowed the Colonels to maintain their lead and take the series. Now the undeniable top seed of the conference, Centre only has one opponent left before taking on NECC Quarterfinals.
Marvel Rivals vs Cedarville (3/11/26): Loss 3-0
The first objective of Round 1 against Cedarville would set the precedent for what The Colonels would face all evening. Cedarville opened with a very dive-heavy composition with a focus on flanking behind Centre's offense and picking off their supporting back line. The combination of pressure to the frontline as well and consistent backline pressure prevented an capture of the objective on the side of The Colonels making the first objective go to Cedarville. The second objective saw Cedarville utilize choke points very well and, along with well timed ultimates, they shut out The Colonels with another flawless objective making Round 1 go in their favor.
Round 2 saw Centre change their lineup to try and directly counter Cedarville's dive. On attack, The Colonels started off strong by capturing the objective after n0g (
Nate Hall) was able to capitalize on Cedarville's overextended frontline and lead the charge to the objective. After they captured the objective, both teams were locked in an ultimate-based brawl lasting over a minute. This long stalemate between the two teams inevitably ended with Cedarville halting The Colonels' progress just before the first checkpoint.
With Centre now on defense, a very defensive heavy composition was played to attempt and stop the pressure from all angles that Cedarville was applying. The beginning of the defense went very well for The Colonels but Cedarville was able to get their Strategist ultimates first and capture the objective. Centre was able to stop the momentum of the objective with a perfect ultimate from JayFreak (
Justin Lewis) and the followup from StarGarden (
Leif Becker) gave the control of the objective back to The Colonels for a brief moment before Cedarville reclaimed the objective and ultimately won Round 2.
Round 3 saw Centre trying a dive composition of their own while Cedarville anticipated the swap and ran their own version of anti-dive. With this role reversal, Centre made some initial headway on the objective while staggering some of Cedarville's frontline. Unfortunately, the second fight begins with Cedaville eliminating half of Centre's team just a mere 4 meters from the checkpoint. Ultimately, that is where Centre would end their offense. On defense, Centre swapped away from the dive and back onto their more standard "deal all the damage" composition. Cedarville, back on their bread and butter of dive that targeted The Colonels' Strategists and allowed for the momentum to be carried right to the end. Cedarville ended the final portion of Round 3 making the series 0-3 in their favor.
Marvel Rivals vs North Alabama (3/13/26): Loss 3-0
The first objective of Round 1 against the University of North Alabama Lions opened with The Colonels getting the opening KO on UNA's Vanguards and following swiftly by picking off their three Startegists to take the first capture of the objective. With the momentum in their favor, Centre would capture a fourth of the objective before UNA was able to withstand the damage of Centre's three Duelists and capture the objective, an objective that would solely be in ownership of UNA afterwards. The last team fight consisted of The Colonels using three ultimates to try and regain control while UNA only needed to use two to maintain their control and with the first objective. The second objective of Round 1 saw Centre swap from 1-3-2 to the standard 2-2-2 they knew well. Trying to sustain through the heavy damage of UNA's damage boosted Moon Knight, Centre attempted to take off-angles to catch their enemy by surprise. Unfortunately, UNA was prepared to shut these angles down. They were able to capture the objective three fourths of the way before Centre gained control after BigSoup (
Blake Shrewsberry) got the opening pick with his ultimate. Centre was only able to secure 39% of the objective before UNA captured and ultimately won Round 1.
Round 2 saw very similar compositions to Round 1 from both teams. With Centre on the offense, they opted for a high damage composition that allowed them to secure the opening objective by dispersing UNA's Vanguards and shutting down their ultimates. Sadly, now on the push phase of the round, UNA was able to do the same back to The Colonels by shutting down two ultimates in one fight. Throughout the second phase of the Round, UNA would use their ultimates very well to shut down Centre's advances and prevent them from capturing the first checkpoint.
With Centre now on defense, their composition was all about staying still and not letting UNA move forwards. Initially, this plan worked very well as The Colonel's were able to hold space yet a well timed KO from UNA was able to secure them the objective. On the second phase of the defense for Centre, capitalized on UNA's ultimate usage very well with well timed counterplay. BigSoup made excellent space with his Vanguard ultimate with the assistance from JayFreak's (
Justin Lewis) Strategist ultimate. Unfortunately, Centre used just about every trick they had in their pockets but UNA still had some left that created an opening for them to push forward and with Round 2.
In Round 3, The Colonels swapped to a triple Strategist lineup of their own in an attempt to match UNA's pacing. As a stalemate started Round 3, the Duelist duo of Powers (
Caleb Pelanne) and SkelloJello (
Lucas Poynter) were able to pick off both of UNA's Vanguards to get the objective moving for The Colonels. An incredible Strategist ultimate from Blue Ibis (
Leigh Wingfield) held off UNA's offense but their high damage was able to take out Centre through the ultimate and stop them before the first checkpoint. With Centre on the defense, all they could hope for is to stall as long as possible. The beginning stages of defense went very well for Centre, countering UNA's ultimates while still getting value from their own. UNA was able to use what they had left to take our Centre's Strategists and ultimately capture the objective and win the third and final round making the ending score 0-3.
League of Legends vs Montevallo (3/14/26): Win 2-0
After several difficult weeks in a row, Centre found two upset wins in one weekend to close out the PBC regular season. In the first round against Montevallo, Centre utilized a primarily brawl style team composition. The invincible duo, of MetroMina (
Mina Hartman) and orbiterpluto (
Nick Minton), utilized some more poke style characters on bottom lane. Several crucial teamfight went the Colonels' way including a late game one where MetroMina scored a Pentakill coming from behind UM with the help of Lumberjack (JT Talyor)'s Ornn. They secured the first round right after with Centre having 26 total kills as a team and only 3 deaths. The second round of this match was much closer, with Centre struggling against a strong Zaheen from Montevallo. However, Lumberjack, played a very strong Mordekaiser and secured 32k damage. Some mid to late game teamfight let the Colonels start to gain some momentum and then taking Baron and some more Mordekaiser shenanigans from Lumberjack gave the team what they needed to secure the win in the second round.
Valorant vs Florida State University-Panama City (3/15/26): Loss 2-0 (14-16, 3-13)
Centre Valorant Team faced yet another tough challenge this week in their third and final season match against FSUPC. The Colonels this time started their match on Corrode, a map that no team has played before in the conference. Yet the kerns were ready to adapt immediately and started defense. Centre gained good momentum ending the first half with 9 - 3 with Meowmeowmeowmeow (
Aaron Klein) getting two 3ks and Klippy (
Vedant Bhagat) giving an outstanding performance getting 2 1v2 clutches and a 3k to give Centre the lead they needed. Going into the second half FSUPC adapted quickly to Centre's playstyle and got the first 7 rounds to claim a 10 - 9 lead on Centre. Teams traded rounds to make it 10-11, but then Klippy (
Vedant Bhagat) pushed the Colonels to match point getting a 1v3 clutch and a 1v4 clutch back to back. FSUPC tied things up to force overtime and both team struggled to close out the required 2 point lead causing the game to go the 30th round where FSUPC finally claimed victory 16-14.
Going into the second map of the match, Breeze, FSUPC took the scoreboard with a storm, winning the first 9 rounds of the half. Although it was a bad start Colonels tried their best to fight off getting the last 3 rounds back to back to end the first half with 3 - 9. Down by 6, Centre was in a tough spot and was unfortunately lost on the pistol round giving FSUPC the momentum they needed to close out the final 4 rounds. FSUPC won by 2 - 0 giving yet another loss for Centre this week but this does not mean the end of this season as Centre still has 2nd seed in the conference and may have another opportunity to take down FSUPC in the Championship after the 2/3 seed tiebreaker on the 29th.
League of Legends vs Florida Southern (3/15/26): Win 2-0
In their second upset win in as many days, Centre took on Florida Southern. In the first round, Centre utilized a tank/poke combination style comp. Jungler, mid and top lane's all ran tankier characters. On the other hand, bottom lane and ADC leveraged more poke with their picks, in this case Nami and Lux. MetroMina (
Mina Hartman) showcased some strong Nami gameplay seeing that some of her other champions had been banned or picked by FSC (Jynx, Smolder, Hwei, and Veigar falling in this category). Florida Southern employed a primarily poke style comp, with a strong Ashe and Seraphine bottom lane. Both Florida Southern and Centre scaled for late game in the first round, with Centre pulling ahead after securing a massive team fight win. During the second round, Centre utilized a team comp with many crowd control and burst abilities, which helped counter the more brawl style comp of Florida Southern. The teams kept a relatively even pace with Centre finishing with a slight lead in gold and objectives. esteramu (
Gabriel Habeeb) finished with an incredible 48k damage--contributing massively to this win for Centre. In general, Centre was able to scale for late game team did an incredible job with their late game scaling in this match. With the regular season at an end, Centre LoL prepares for the Peach Belt Conference Playoffs hosted at Kennesaw State.
Marvel Rivals vs UNC-Greensboro (3/17/26): Loss 3-0
Centre played a version of triple support on Domination. They made no progress on the first point and only 35% on the second.
For the Convergence map, Centre selected Symbiotic Surface and started on the defense. StarGarden (
Leif Becker) swapped off the DPS role and onto tank for the first time in the season with BigSoup (
Blake Shrewsberry) picking up DPS. They held decently well but ultimately let UNCG finish out the map. On offense, the Colonels struggled to take the first point despite three trade-heavy team fights.
For the final map, Centre selected Yggdrasill Path, a Convoy map. Centre opted to run a "GOATS" comp—a term from Overwatch that generally means 3 tanks, 3 supports, and no DPS. This gave Centre the most success they had all evening. Centre started with a more dive heavy version of GOATS, but switched to an additional shield tank after UNCG took the first checkpoint. Centre began winning team fights before the third checkpoint and effectively stalled the timer to 0:00 before UNCG finished out the map in overtime. Centre kept a similar comp on attack, but added an Adam Warlock and Groot to the mix. They kept good pace with UNCG's time and in the beginning and found good answers into several enemy ultimates. The Colonels began to slow down around halfway through the second phase though when UNCG unleashed some devastating combos.
With the defeat, the season ended with an unfortunate 0-7 overall record. Many of these matches looked tighter than what the final scoreboard showed though. The chance to play in this competitive conference was full of learning opportunities that will be put to good use when Marvel Rivals returns next fall.
Rocket League vs William & Mary (3/18/26): Win 4-0 (Forfeit)
William and Mary forfeited this final season match. This means that
Centre Rocket League has ended the season with a perfect 7-0 record and will head into playoffs as the #1 seed from Southeast B. They will take on the #4 seed from Southeast A first in Quarterfinals. A date for this is still up in the air due to the upcoming spring break.
