Esports Weekly Recap: 10/23-29

10/29/2025 5:09:00 PM

Centre Esports continues its busy fall slate of games. Here is how the Colonels fared in the last week:

League of Legends vs UNC Asheville (10/23/25): Win 2-0
In the first round, Centre utilized their Milio and Sivir on the bottom lane. Scaling Sivir for mid-to-late game to create massive damage. Lumberjack got to show off his deep pockets and played an incredible game on Aatrox creating space in team battles. Second round, Centre had Mandalore the Wise playing Miss Fortune, which we haven't seen in a couple weeks, doing a great job going 9/1/10. There were some incredible team plays using Viegar, played by MetroMina, to stun enemies while Miss Fortune got kills with their ultimate. orbiterpluto and MegaNoodles did a great job absorbing damage and assisting their team mates, both players got 15+ kills.

Marvel Rivals vs Lander University (10/26/25): Loss 3-2
In round 1, the composition of characters between the two teams would vary. Centre ran comfort picks that leaned into player strengths while Lander stuck closer to the Meta. Both teams would run the standard lineup of two players on each role with the Colonels looking more aggressive. Round 1 would go to the Centre after Jacob "Carp" Carpenter landed three eliminations with his ultimate ability. In round 2, Lander ran the same composition as before with the only change being a Vanguard being substituted out for a Strategist. Centre ran a more defensive composition whilst still running the standard 2-2-2. What may have given Centre the edge in round 2 was the destruction of the battlefield. Behind the objective, walls could be broken to reveal when the enemy could be sneaking from behind. The Colonels knew this and used it as an advantage to secure more angles. Round 3 saw Lander begin to make adaptations. Lander swapped their composition to be more focused on diving into Centre's team and picking them apart one-by-one. The Colonels attempted to do this for themselves, but it proved less fruitful as Lander University would win round 3. Round 4, in being the same game mode as round 1, saw Centre using the same composition of characters. Lander, however, swapped it up to their "in your face" dive-style composition. The constant onslaught of damage ended up being too much for the Colonels making the series score two all and sending it to a match deciding round 5. The final round saw a dramatic shift in favor as Lander was able to pull off an incredible defense of the objective with constant contest and pressure. Centre was able to break through and contest the objective in overtime, but their defenses fell and Lander University won the fifth and final round making the score 2-3.

Rocket League vs Kennesaw State (10/26/25): Loss 3-0 (1-5, 0-1, 2-6)
Centre RL faced off against PBC top seed KSU with a team containing retired professional and RL personality Kronovi, now 28 and competing in collegiate. Kronovi was a top professional during the early stages of the competitive RL and has over 300k subscribers on his YouTube channel. Given the circumstances, Centre was just hoping to keep KSU's goal lines in the single digits, but managed to do much more. The Colonels scored 3 total goals in this series over some of the best to ever do it, 2 of which were scored by Sush (Grant Walker). Round two looked especially strong for the Centre as they managed to hold strong on defense for 4:26 before finally letting one pass the goal line. Even the possibility of taking a game off these titans has made this a highlight of the season. In game 3, facing a likely loss from a 0-5 deficit, Centre scored twice in the final 2 minutes in a show of tenacity.

League of Legends vs University of the Cumberlands (10/26/25): Win 2-1
Centre opened their first round against University of the Cumberlands with one of their stronger team compositions. Sivir and Janna on bottom lane, Sivir scaling for late game supported by orbiterpluto's incredible Janna. MetroMina's Syndra on mid lane, Sett on top lane and Maokai in the jungle. Centre lost a team fight early in the round, creating a fruitless struggle the rest of the round. For the second round Centre adjusted their team comp to have greater range against UC's more brawl style comp. The second round was very drawn out, lasting over 40 minutes, with Centre coming out victorious. MandaloretheWise, playing Veigar, finished the round with a massive 27 kills and 61k damage. In the third round, Centre maintained their damage absorption focus, for another 40 minute round. Esteramu, on Garen, dominated the round by helping set up plays and get kills. Before this match, UC was the only undefeated team in the conference at 4-0.

Valorant vs Indiana Tech (10/27/25): Loss 2-1 (4-13, 13-8, 6-13)
Centre struggled in the attack half of the first map, Lotus. Indiana Tech was very good at disengaging from fights so they could group up and retake points as a unit. They gained an intense lead in the first half despite Briggs "DRAG" Cook getting an ace to soften the losses. The lead that Indiana Tech obtained in the first half mixed with the difficulty to get Centre's economy on its legs made the second half an unlikely win for Centre and an inevidable win for Indiana Tech. The second map, Ascent, was much closer. Centre and Indiana Tech would trade rounds without getting a sizable lead. If Centre was able to eliminate two or three Indiana Tech players before they made it onto the point then the round would almost always go to Centre. However, if Indiana Tech was able to get three or more players on site, Centre could almost never take the point back from them. Unlike Lotus, Ascent is not a map that someone could easily disengage from fights on. Centre adopted a mad dash strategy that involved a swift take-over of the objective which would regularly eliminate half of Indiana Tech. Indiana Tech couldn't find a response to this strategy in time and would lose the map. In the final map, Haven, Centre fell victim to the very same strategy they employed on the map before. Indiana Tech was using an aggressive style that left little room for recovery while occasionally switching to a more flank focused push that regularly blindsided Centre. Centre eventually learned how to respond to keep the half-time score from being too one-sided, but they were still in an uphill battle regardless. Centre struggled as the halves switched despite a some successes from paying off of trades. Aaron "performative man" Klein and Briggs "DRAG" Cook finished the series with 89 kills between them at 45 and 44 respectively.

The Colonels are back in action this Sunday, starting with Marvel Rivals against Huntingdon College at 2:00pm.
